                    "First Flights"

                    By Linda Tania Abrams

Celebrating the Wright Brothers' First Flight Centennial (1903-2003).
"First Flights" is a new dramatic reading by Linda Tania Abrams.
It covers the history of flight from Icarus to Apollo 11. The
inspiring, dramatic (and sometimes comical) saga of our conquest of
the air, told through the eyewitness accounts of the brilliant
engineers, bold adventurers, and eccentric visionaries who led the
way up. Hear the Wright Brothers story from their own letters and
diaries, plus first-person accounts of historic flights: Lindberg's
first solo across the Atlantic, Yeager breaking the sound barrier,
and more. The uniqueness of this presentation is that it is
dramatized by being told in the authentic words of those who made
the flights &/or those who witnessed them. Here are some of the
audience feedback comments when "First Flights" was presented
this summer at the TOC Summer Seminar:

"Wonderful!...A celebration of the human spirit."

"Inspirational!" "Fun & informative!"

"Marvelous! Moving, informative, and impressive."

"Simply superb! Linda brought to life the missions, passions,
perseverance and courage of the creators of flight, with drama and
heart-touching immediacy. She was wonderful, and the subject likewise.
Her extensive research was an awesome achievement in its own right."

"What a remarkable talent Linda has! Her dramatic readings of first
person accounts of aviation pioneers surpass virtual reality in their
evocation of time & place, danger & rapture."

"It was as good as any church service in celebrating the glory of man &
his achievements."

"...she brought history to life!"

"A beautiful, eloquent, dramatic presentation."

Ms. Abrams is the founder of an acclaimed "living history" performing
troupe, with 6 international tours to their credit. She has also
created 5 other one-woman shows, on subjects as diverse as Queen
Elizabeth I and the space age, which she has performed at many venues,
in the U.S. and abroad, and for 7 previous TOC Summer Seminars. Her
presentation of Queen Elizabeth I's original letters and speeches is
contracted to Duncan Scott Productions, currently developing it as a
potential TV Special. She has had a lifetime love affair with flight,
and at one time held a private pilot's license.

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE WMOD MEETING?

NOTE THAT THE MEETING PLACE HAS CHANGED!

Please join WMOD on Saturday, October 25. We will meet at the Marcopolo
Restaurant and NOT the Hunan Palace. Anyone who is interested in rational
discussion of Ayn Rand's ideas is welcome. There will be a $2 charge for
the talk if you are not having dinner. Note that our meeting location is
Metro accessible. You can either join us for drinks at 5:30 or for dinner
at 6:00 PM or for the talk at 7:00 PM at the Marcopolo Restaurant in Rosslyn, VA
just across the Key Bridge from Georgetown. The street address is
1901 Fort Myer Drive, but the front door of the Marcopolo is actually
on 19th Street. This is the same location (but different name) as the
Lighthouse Tavern where we had a previous meeting.

If you come by Metro, get off at the Rosslyn Metro Exit.
Take the street exit on N. Moore Street (across street from Roy
Rogers/Burger King), go out of Metro and take a left onto
N Moore Street, and walk past the Hunan Palace to the next
corner (intersection of N Moore and 19th Street)
The Marcopolo is across the street with a purple awning.
(Phone is 703-527-5656).

If you drive, there is a parking garage ramp behind the
Marcopolo that is free after 5PM. If you drive East on N Moore
Street with the Hunan on your left, take a left onto 19th Street
passing the Marcopolo on your right, and take the next right
and you will see the parking ramp.

There will be a $15 fixed price dinner (including tax and tip),
or you can order from the menu.

Please RSVP to WMOD at (703) 820-7696 before noon on the day of
the meeting so that we can tell the restaurant how many tables to
set up and how many to expect for dinner. For more information,
call the Hunan Palace at (703) 528-8188, or call David Saum
at (703) 820-7696 (W) or (703) 671-5119 (H).
