Ben announced that the meeting would be brief since we were scheduled to be at the Goldvein Jubilee in the afternoon. A number of club members attended that event and the club was well represented. Thanks for everyone’s help. The first item on the agenda was the remaining events where Central Virginia Gold Prospectors will be participating. Ben discussed that even though we have leased a number of properties for club members to use, we are still looking for others. If you know of anything that might be available, let us know. Report on common dig at August meeting – Everyone took home bags of classified material—feedback was that there were some very satisfied participants. We will be continuing common digs so watch for the announcements in the newsletters. MINER’S SAFETY CLASS – A number of years ago CVGP held several miner safety classes. We will be doing this again. The class takes all day. Taking this class will educate you on mining and quarry safety. Contact Ben if you are interested. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` We were reminded that hunting season is just around the corner. During that time, we cannot go to properties 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 except on Sundays. We can still use properties 4, 7 and 8 every day of the week. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Once again we were reminded of the following: DO NOT leave trash, DO not discard your burned charcoal on the ground, take it out with you, NO digging in the banks. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` The election of NEW officers will be held at the October meeting. This is an important thing for the club as the officers are a big part in determining what path the club takes in the future. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` GOLD NUGGET RAFFLE – all tickets should have been turned in by the September meeting for them to be calculated in the total to determine who sold the most tickets to win the ¼ ounce nugget. Tickets will still be sold at the October meeting prior to the drawing. BIG ANNOUNCEMENT (hope you think it was worth reading the whole newsletter): The subject of a new raffle was discussed, voted on and approved by the members present. This raffle will be for MEMBERS ONLY. This includes everyone on our member roster—email and snail mail. The prize is a week-long trip to the GPAA Alaska camp. It will include round trip airfare to Seattle, rental of a 4-wheeler and if you are not already a GPAA member, we will pay for you to become one. The Alaska trip will be for one week sometime during the period from June 30th through August 4th. The exact week will be determined as soon as we are allowed to make a reservation. The tickets will sell for $10 each. This is approximately a $3,000.00 prize that is going to be raffled. The sale of tickets will begin at the October 20th meeting and the drawing will be at the March 2008 meeting. That will give the winner sufficient time to make final preparations. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` The meeting adjourned, the door prize and nugget drawings were held and then a number of us proceeded to Goldvein to participate in the Jubilee. A request was made that we again print a directory of ACTIVE club members for distribution only to the membership. We would like to have your thoughts on this. The directory would include name, address, telephone and email. It would not be distributed for commercial purposes. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` The Christmas toy drive is in progress. It would be appreciated if you would bring a new, unwrapped toy to the meetings through December. Cash donations to be used to purchase toys would also be welcomed. These toys will be distributed just before Christmas to needy kids in the Dillwyn area. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Be sure and let us know if your contact information changes if you wish to continue receiving the monthly newsletter. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` We are in need of someone to volunteer to fill a position in the club as Events Coordinator. If you are interested in doing this, let Ben know. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Don’t forget that we are now on an year-round meeting schedule. Soon we will be sending a new meeting schedule list. ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` There will NOT be a meeting in November and Ben and Kathy will be at the gold show in Tennessee during the October meeting so they wanted to be first to wish you a HAPPY THANKSGIVING !!
