Ben welcomed everyone. An announcement was made about the death of one of our members. Tom Sablon was one of the original members of CVGP. Tom recently passed away after a lengthy illness. He was a great asset to the hobby of gold prospecting and spent a great amount of time doing presentations at schools, etc. He was also a Past President of the Northern Virginia group. Ben read a petition to rename the new Assay Office at the Goldvein Museum in memory of Tom. A moment of silence was observed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Secretary and Treasuer gave their reports. Ben told the club that we have purchased a new grill. We have also been offered a freezer that will be kept at Ben’s store in Dillwyn. We will be keeping food for the club cookouts there. The club has purchased (for the ladies) a portable tent and “potty” for use during outings. This was a welcome addition. The survey forms for the Buckingham Properties need to turned in by the June meeting so we can make an informed decision on which properties to renew. The lease will be up for renewal in July. It appears that for the most part you are taking good care of the leased properties and the landowners are pleased. Keep up the good work !! All the properties at Buckingham are going to all be locked shortly so be sure to have your green land fee card with you when you are at any of the properties. Ben discussed the newly acquired Goldvein property. The road to the property has some ruts so if you have a bucket of concentrate and want to dump it in the the ruts, please do so. There will be no dredging allowed (owner’s rule) at this property. Also, no power equipment—battery only. We had some bush hogging done and will be doing more. There is a firering that we can use but be sure your fire is completely extinguished before you leave. Camping is allowed but the facilities are primitive. The boundaries are marked and there is a gate. Be SURE and observe the boundaries—if you aren’t sure, then don’t go. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nugget Raffle: Don’t forget to get your tickets to sell. Tickets are issued in books of 5 but they can be sold individually. Tickets and/or money need to be turned in by the September meeting. The drawing will be held at the October meeting. The person selling the most tickets will be awarded a really nice ¼ ounce nugget. We had an approximately 6 minute newsclip on Fox News 5 out of D C about gold prospecting. It was a great piece and starred several of our members. The next meeting will be in Buckingham County at Ben’s new store location, 1082 Main Street, Dillwyn. The club discussed this and it was agreed that all of our meetings will be held there. There is plenty of parking and in case of inclement weather, we can be dry and cool or warm, whichever is required. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ REMEMBER THAT DREDGING WILL BECOME LEGAL JULY 1ST FOR 4’’ OR SMALLER DREDGES EXCEPT HISTORICALLY MARKED AREAS AND REMEMBER TO ALWAYS GET LANDOWNER PERMISSION. Ben showed a quartz rock he found at Buckingham property with a really nice gold vein running through it. Ben brought a big package from Alaska that was delivered to Buck—it was an early Father’s Day gift. The drawings were held and the meeting was adjourned. The land fee members then proceeded to the newly acquired property for a tour.
