CENTRAL VIRGINIA GOLD PROSPECTORS Our next meeting will be May 19th at the Monroe Park Museum on Route 17 in Goldvein, Virginia at the Pavillion, beginning at 10:00 AM. Please look below for details and specific directions, etc. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ REPORT ON APRIL 21, 2007 MEETING Ben called the April 21 meeting to order and welcomed everyone. There were approximately 91 members and guests present and also the Boy Scout trop from Annandale Va with 15 scouts and 6 leaders. Ben told about the claims survey form that everyone is requested to complete so we can make a decision on ….. We were short on the claims guides but new ones are being printed. If you paid the Land Use Fee and didn’t get one, let us know and we will see that you get a copy. Treasurer’s Report was given and the Secretary read the report from the March meeting. The gold nugget raffle was discussed—tickets will be issued in groups of 5 but can be sold singly. The money and tickets will be turned in by the September meeting. The drawing will be held at the October meeting. You do NOT have to be present to win. This is one of our biggest money makers for the club so try hard to sell lots of tickets. A discussion was conducted on proper dredging “power sluicing” procedures. The law does not go into effect until JULY ! so do NOT do any dredging until then. Remember nothing larger than a 4” dredge and be sure and respect private landowners property. Also remember that there will be no dredging at any time on the Buckingham property No. 1. A discussion was had as to whether or not we want to allow dredging on the Buckingham properties 2 through 7. At the June meeting we will have a vote on which properties to allow dredging. ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` PLEASE NOTE: A rope across a road means do not drive past there !!!!!!!!!!! Do not dig under banks !!!!!!!!! We voted and approved the purchase of gravel to fix the road going to property No. 4. New Business: Mark went to a Boy Scout meeting in Annandale and told them about prospecting, the troop members and leaders joined us at the outing. Ben, Kathy, Jack and Felicia went to Powhatan Cub Scout Pack 1838 to give a prospecting talk to them. Pack Leader Cliff Mahone was at the meeting and gave rave reviews for the CVGP presentation and gave us a Certificate of Appreciation. ````````````````````````````````````````````` Certificate from Goldvein. We were given a certificate of appreciation for participating in the Goldvein Jubilee last fall. It is in the plans to do that again this year. Ben told us about the new property in Goldvein that the club has been able to lease. The following applies to that property: no dredging or motorized equipment allowed (battery operated is OK). The May 19th meeting will be at the Goldvein, VA Monroe Park Gold Museum Pavillion at 10:00 AM. After the meeting, there will be a tour of the newly acquired property for members participating in the land use fee to familiarize them with the boundaries and rules. The parking for this tour will be limited so anyone with a trailer or RV is requested to park at the Museum until after the meeting and tour. Also, lunch will NOT be provided so make your own provisions for food and drinks. You may want to come early and bring the kids. They will really enjoy the gold prospecting exhibits at the Museum. Directions to the Goldvein property are as follows: Monroe Park can easily be reached by taking the following routes: From The South (Fredericksburg, VA area) - Take I-95 to Route 17 north. He wanted to know if the club members thought there would be a conflict of interest with this endeavor and offered to step down if the membership did. The general consensus was that it was no problem. The Grand Opening will be this weekend. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ REQUEST: If anyone has a freezer or refrigerator/freezer that they would like to donate to the club, it would be appreciated.
