CENTRAL VIRGINIA GOLD PROSPECTORS______ The upcoming meeting of the Central Virginia Gold Prospectors will be held September 16th at 10 AM, Buckingham Property No. 1. DIRECTIONS TO LEASED PROPERTY IN BUCKINGHAM COUNTY: On A map find the intersection of route 15 and route 60 at Sprouse’s Corner. Go 1 ½ miles south on route 15. In curve you will see a sign for route 714—go to NEXT gravel road and turn right. It is across from two churches on left. After going through gate, go past trailer on right. When you come to a clearing on the left with a large oak tree you should bear to the right. This road will take you to the creek. You should not attempt to go any further than the creek unless you have an ATV or 4-wheel drive. We would like to point out that when the club meets at Buckingham Property No. 1, everyone is welcome to attend, whether you are participating in the land use fee or not. But, you will not be permitted to prospect at any of the other leased properties, Nos. 2 through 7 unless you are a land fee participant. ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` REPORT ON AUGUST 19, 2006 MEETING The August 19th meeting of the Central Virginia Gold Prospectors was called to order by our President, Ben Vaughan. He welcomed everyone. There were approximately 50 members and guests present for the meeting. The Secretary and Treasurer gave their reports. LAND FEES: It was noted that outstanding balances of the land fees are to be paid in full by the September meeting. Anyone who has a problem meeting this deadline needs to contact Ben. If the total amount has not been paid and/or other arrangements have not been made, the individual will not be permitted to participate in next year’s land use sign-up unless the entire previous balance is paid and also the full amount for the upcoming season is paid. Members who have paid the full amount in a timely manner will again be allowed to pay installments. DREDGING: The Club is still awaiting approval of the blanket dredging permits. In the meantime applications have been filed by individual members for other parcels of land. Several of these have been approved and several of these are also still pending approval. Those members who have had their applications approved are now legal to dredge the approved site. Dredging do’s and do not’s were also reviewed. We all need to follow these regulations in order to not alienate VMRC and the other agencies about dredging. LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS: Volunteers for Field Days of the Past on September 15, 16 and 17th are needed. Also, we still need volunteers to help at the Gold Show in Lynchburg on October 14 and 15. In addition, on September 16, we have been asked to participate in the Goldvein Jubilee. This event is going to be held at the gold prospecting museum on Route 17 at Goldvein, VA.. Yes, SEPTEMBER 16th is going to be a very busy day !! since that is also the date of our regularly scheduled meeting. Now you should understand more fully why we keep pleading for volunteers to help. Participating in these activities, helps get gold prospecting and CVGP out before the general public and make them aware of what we are doing. This brings me to another item. We have been contacted by a Resource Officer at the middle school for one of the close-by counties about helping him set-up a gold club for the kids. Mary (one of our great members) met with the Resource Officer and they worked on some ideas about what can be done, including outings with the kids. We are going to need help with this project if it is to be a success. If you can conduct a program or donate any prospecting items for them it would be greatly appreciated. Relating to this, the accountant is working on the club becoming a 501c –not for profit—corporation. Projects of an educational nature are one of the criteria for us obtaining and maintaining this status. Remember, if you are interested in going on the trip to North Carolina sometime at the end of September, please contact Harry McElhone at harrymc1@peoplepc.com. . Our Vice President was acknowledged for the fine job he is doing installing shelving in the new club trailer. Motions were made and approved regarding the dollar amount we would spend on having the trailer lettered with the club name. John will be taking the trailer to the gold show in Lynchburg and to the other events where we will be participating. Tim, our Claims Committee Chairman, talked about the new properties and what we can and cannot do at them. He also complimented everyone who led groups on the tour of the properties and worked on the boundary marking. YEAR-ROUND MEETINGS: This subject was discussed, a motion was made and approved that we meet in the winter (possibly with the exception of December). The club has grown and there is so much happening that it seems to be in the best interest of everyone not to have the four month void where we do not have meetings. We will keep you updated about this situation with locations and dates as the time gets closer. We were also reminded to keep our eyes open for wildlife when out in the remote areas of our newly leased properties—especially copperheads and bears. Last on the Agenda but certainly of GREAT IMPORTANCE: At the September meeting we will be taking nominations for new officers with the election being held at the October meeting. We have the following officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Claims Committee director. Please give consideration to volunteering or nominating someone to fill the positions. We look forward to seeing everyone at the September 16th meeting, Buckingham Property NO. 1 at 10 AM. NO FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED SO COME PREPARED WITH YOUR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS. There have been a number of inquiries about teaming up with someone to ride to the meetings. Some of you come a long distance, and besides the increasing cost of gas, it is nice to have someone to talk with on the drive. If you are interested and want to send me your zip code, I will check and see if there is a member living close to you. Sandy: BobandSandy@gct21.net or telephone (540) 948-6689. I would also like to make a request of any member who sends me an email—please include your full name in the message. Our membership roster is up to about 400 names and I don’t always recognize an email address. That means I sometimes have to scan through the entire roster to try and determine who has contacted me. As usual, we look forward to seeing each of you at the upcoming meeting. In the meantime, have a safe and happy Labor Day !! And remember, keep looking—the big one may be in the next pan.
