JULY 2006 CENTRAL VIRGINIA GOLD PROSPECTORS MEETING The next meeting of the CVGP will be held at the BUCKINGHAM property on July 15th. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A CHANGE OF LOCATION. The meeting will begin at 10:00 AM—RAIN OR SHINE. DIRECTIONS TO LEASED PROPERTY IN BUCKINGHAM COUNTY: On A map find the intersection of route 15 and route 60 at Sprouse’s Corner. Go 1 ½ miles south on route 15. In curve you will see a sign for route 714—go to NEXT gravel road and turn right. It is across from two churches on left. After going through gate, go past trailer on right. When you come to a clearing on the left with a large oak tree you should bear to the right. This road will take you to the creek. You should not attempt to go any further than the creek unless you have an ATV or 4-wheel drive. There will be NO lunch provided so please bring your own food and drinks. Please read this entire newsletter for an explanation of what will be happening after the meeting. ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` REPORT ON JUNE 17, 2006 MEETING The June 17th meeting was called to order with about 50 members and guests present. Several items to note: A new member directory is being compiled for distribution. It will include the names and contact information only of those people who have actually attended a meeting. We were also reminded that when we join or renew GPAA or join LDMA to tell them you are a member of the Central Virginia club so we can get credit. Volunteers are still needed to help at the gold show in Lynchburg on October 14 and 15. Old Business: The rule about the gate at Buckingham was repeated—Leave the gate as you find it—either locked or unlocked. Also, it has been observed that someone is not filling in the holes they dig. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ALL HOLES BE FILLED BEFORE LEAVING THE PROPERTY. The Treasurer’s Report was given and the Secretary read the report on the May meeting. It was agreed upon by the members present that all land fees installment payments must be completed by the September meeting. We were reminded that we need everyone’s help selling the tickets for the ounce gold nugget and the Garrett metal detector raffles The outing to Cotton Patch in North Carolina is scheduled for the last week in September. Let us know if you are interested in attending. ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` DREDGING AND NEW PROPERTIES: Several individual club members have received approval from VMRC to dredge on the properties that they submitted. The Club’s application that covers 7 different properties is still being processed. If you submit your application for a piece of property you want approved, it can be done in a short period of time. Ben announced that all the details have been agreed upon for the club to lease 6 new properties in the Buckingham County area. They are all close to the property we already lease in Buckingham. The arrangement for the 6 pieces of land is that we will have access for prospecting for 104 feet from the center of the steam going through the property on each side. There now will be a total of approximately 540 acres that the club has permission to prospect. Camping will also be allowed on these properties and the same rules regarding fires, holes dug, etc. will apply. Some of the land will be available year-round. Plan for the July meeting: The official meeting will be short. Then those members who are participating in the Lane Use Fee will divide into 6 groups. Each group will go to one of the new properties for a specified length of time and then will proceed to the next property on the list. If you have a four-wheel drive or ATV it might come in handy for this outing. If the weather has made the roads on the new properties too muddy to travel, there will be a presentation done giving directions to all the new properties, outlining of the property boundaries and, hopefully, handouts showing these details. We hope to have printed brochures showing a map of the property and directions to get there. This tour will take most of the afternoon so come prepared for the weather and bring your food and liquid needs. It was also decided that the August 19th and September 16th meetings will be held at the main Buckingham property. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the meeting on the 17th. REMINDER The time for election of new officers is rapidly approaching. Please keep this in mind and if you are willing to serve or if there is someone you would like to nominate, please let us know.
