There were approximately 60 members and guests present. It is difficult to get an exact count since everyone was doing different things. Ben complimented everyone on the great job they had done getting the property ready for the first meeting there this season. Remember that we are always in need of volunteers to help with different projects. First on the agenda for the meeting was a discussion of acquiring new properties where the club can prospect. The negotiations are down to actual dollar figures. The terms of the lease will be different from Buckingham in that instead of leasing the whole property, the lease will be for land from the middle of the creek to a number of designated feet on each side. All properties under consideration are approximately 15 minutes from the Buckingham property so it could be used as a base for meetings and camping. Second was a discussion about dredging. A list of things an individual must do in order to dredge was read. When these things are done, VMRC will send an approval notice for the requested dredging location. One of our members has already received two of these approval notices. The club is also awaiting approval of the blanket permit it filed. Virginia residents are reminded that they need to contact their representatives about being allowed to legally dredge (following certain guidelines) as they pursue their hobby of prospecting by dredging. The possibility of dredging at the Buckingham property was discussed. There was a motion that the Buckingham property only be used for panning and sluicing. This motion was seconded, voted on and approved. Dredging on any other properties the club leases will be considered. The club Claims Committee Chairman complimented the club on how well the property was being taken care of, i.e., no litter, no open fires, etc. A motion was made to rent a storage shed until we can come up with some facility for storing club equipment so it doesn’t have to be hauled around by various members. This motion was voted on and approved. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` An announcement was made about the upcoming gold show in Lynchburg on October 14 and 15. Volunteers are still needed to help man our booth for any part of those two days. Don’t forget to get your tickets to sell for the ounce gold nugget prize. Also, there is a raffle for a Garrett H-300 metal detector that tickets can be purchased for. The drawing for both of these raffles will be at the October meeting. Next we had the drawings for several gold nuggets and a number of door prizes. After that a fantastic lunch was served. Our compliments for the great food preparation go to Ben Vaughan and Kathy Lovin, along with some other helpers. The BBQ was fantastic. Also the desserts brought by various members were appreciated and enjoyed. Don’t forget the next meeting on the 17th of June at the Louisa Campground. If you can then go to the Buckingham property to participate in the workday, you might bring trash bags, gloves, plenty of drinking water, etc.
