It was an absolutely beautiful day and there were about 70 members and guests present. There was a discussion of property maintenance, including a request to make no ruts in the roads, if you dam—UNdam and if you see litter, take it away with you even if it isn’t yours. A dredging update was given by Ben Warner. A report on a study done in the State of Washington showing that 4” or less dredges cause zero impact on the environment—this has been forwarded to the VVMRC. Most of you are aware of how slowly things move when you are dealing with the government. Our latest delay has been the snakehead fish being found in various streams and rivers—I guess we are low on their priority of things to deal with. We understand that the permits have been approved and are just waiting for signatures. We will let you know the details on the dredging class schedule as soon as we have the final approval. (I know you are getting as tired of hearing us say approval will happen SOON as we are saying it, but it really is and it really will be SOON. Just be patient a little longer.). IMPORTANT: There will be no dredging on the Buckingham property since our lease clearly states that no motorized equipment will be allowed. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ````````````````````````````````````````````````````` An announcement was made that Tom Sablon of the Northern Virginia Gold Prospectors invited us 1) to participate with them in an outing at Moorefield Mine in Amelia on July 23rd The Morefield Mine is at Amelia, VA and will go from 9AM until 4:30PM. When you check in at the office, tell then you are from the NVGP/CVGP group and the reduced fee will be $8.00. You need to bring your own bucket and shovel. The directions are-- On a map find US Route 360 west, proceed on 360 west for approximately 20 minutes. Watch for Morefield Mine sign on left at Route 628. and 2) on July 7 at 9 AM, to meet with them at the Museum in Goldvein and then proceed to a creek to do some panning. There will be a crew from Channel 3 out of Fredericksburg there to tape a program for their Profile series. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` `````````````````````````````````````````````````````` A new Claims Committee Chairman, Tim Baber, was elected. He was nominated by Jim Strong and a second was made by Roland Harris—it was voted on and approved. Also, a motion was made that we have a club Chaplain and Roland Harris was nominated by Gary Sensabaugh. This was also voted on and approved. Then there was a discussion on the need for a club Historian. Wanda Seay volunteered to take this position. She will keep a record of outing photos, newspaper articles and other items pertaining to the club. If you have anything you would like to submit, she can be contacted at: 2295 Hardward Rd., Scotrtsville, VA 24590 Telephone (434) 286-2329 Email: yorkieluv@aol.com `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````` The Articles of Incorporation have been completed and submitted to the SCC for approval. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````` At this point there was a discussion of what will take place at the AUGUST meeting, which will be at the Buckingham property. Big goings on !!!! There is going to be a MINER’S HOEDOWN !!!! complete with a pig roast and all the trimmings. This will be a two-day event, Saturday and Sunday August 20th and 21st. Of course, if you can’t stay for both days, just come for whatever time you can. We have learned that some of our members are musically talented and you are invited to bring an instrument and join-in on a pickin’ and jammin’ session. Of course, there will be prospecting. The plan is to pair people up—a beginner with a more experienced prospector. All gold found will be turned in for a community draw on Sunday. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Don’t forget about getting your raffle tickets for the ounce nugget. The tickets come in a block of 5 and are $5 each for a total of $25. The person selling the most tickets will win a quarter-ounce piece of reef gold. The SOLD ticket stubs, any unsold tickets and money will need to be turned in either by mail or in person at a meeting. The deadline will be the September 17th meeting. The drawing will be held at the October 15th meeting. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Our Vice President John Schlabach told us about some research he had done about having club pins made. Everyone thought this was a good idea and John is working on the project. We should have pins available for purchase at the August meeting. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` The raffle drawings were then held and the meeting was adjourned. A number of those in attendance then went off to mark property boundaries and pick-up trash, after which lunch was served. One of our members, Wally Collard brought his big grill and cooked chicken, burgers and hot dogs to go along with an array of other foods. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````` OTHER ITEMS OF INTEREST; · We would like to thank Zane Nance for his donation of a lovely handpainted plate to be raffled at the next meeting. · Thanks also go to Don Tuten who has printed copies of a revised Club Directory.
