CENTRAL VIRGINIA GOLD PROSPECTORS REPORT ON MAY 21, 2005 MEETING Our next meeting will be June 18, 2005, 10:00 AM at the Buckingham property—Directions: On A map find the intersection of route 15 and route 60 at Sprouse’s Corner. Go 1 ½ miles south on route 15. In curve you will see a sign for route 714—go to NEXT gravel road and turn right. It is across from two churches on left. After going through gate, go past trailer on right. When you come to a clearing on the left with a large oak tree you should bear to the right. This road will take you to the creek. You should not attempt to go any further than the creek unless you have an ATV or 4-wheel drive. LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED AFTER THE MEETING The May 21, 2005 meeting, held at the Buckingham property was called to order by our President Ben Vaughan. There was a large turnout with a number of the attendees signing-up for the work session. There was a large array of food served to all present. The Treasurer’s report was given. A motion was made to change our club bylaws to allow officers to serve more than 2 one-year terms if voted for by the membership. There was a discussion about the great job Ben is doing and that it would be good if he would consider continuing to serve. This motion was seconded, voted on and passed by the membership. The bylaws will be amended to reflect the change. A brief report was given about more property being checked on for the club to use and/or lease. DREDGING: We are on the Virginia commission’s agenda to get approval to dredge. This should be happening soon and we will be so very pleased to make the APPROVAL ANNOUNCEMENT. We know you are getting tired of us telling you that it is going to happen soon but, IT REALLY IS so please be patient just a little longer. A request was made for those using the Buckingham property to please be careful driving on the roads when they are wet--someone has been going in and cutting large ruts in them. The participants in the work day signed the roster and went off to gather litter and cut brush. We still need to work on painting the boundaries. A proposal was then made and approved about a fund raiser idea for the club. The club is going to purchase 2 gold nuggets—an ounce and a quarter ounce. Tickets will be issued in packs of five and sold for $5 each. The member selling the most tickets will be awarded the quarter (1/4) ounce nugget as a prize. If you would like tickets to sell (or buy yourself) see an officer at the next meeting. At the April meeting a proposal was made and approved that the club consult with an accountant to help us determine how we want to be officially organized as a group, i.e., non-profit, corporation, status quo. This has been done and a recommendation made that the club incorporate. The fees and paperwork are in the process of being submitted to the State Corporation Commission. With the club being incorporated, personal liability is removed from the officers. At the conclusion of the meeting, the raffle drawing was held for two really nice nuggets. The meeting was then adjourned and the workers went off to help maintain the property. Their efforts are certainly appreciated. SEVERAL MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS; q If you join or renew your GPAA membership, please let them know you are a member of CVGP—we get credit. q If you have a piece of gold prospecting equipment that you think our group would be interested in seeing, bring it to a meeting and give a demonstration. q As I have previously mentioned, there is a great website about gold prospecting in the Virginia, Maryland and DC areas. It also has a link to the Central Virginia Gold Prospectors club that has lots of information about the group. In conclusion, some of you personally knew Jack Nelson and are aware of his passing away. There is a tribute to him at the following web address: http://www.infiltec.com/gold/JNelson.htm Until we see you at the June 18th meeting, stay safe, be happy and may your pans be full of gold. ------------- PS In previous newsletters and at the meetings. we told you about an outing that will take place at Golden Valley in North Carolina the last week of August. If you are planning on going, you need to call Golden Valley at (704) 538-8047 to make your reservation. Be sure to tell them you are with the Central Virginia Gold Prospectors group.
