Hi Everyone... Below is a summary of the outing to Goldvein on September 6 and the special meeting on the 7th. PLEASE NOTE THAT THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE PAID THE $10 MEMBERSHIP CONTRIBUTION AND CANNOT BE PRESENT AT THE MEETING CAN SEND YOUR VOTE TO ME BY EMAIL AS TO WHETHER OR NOT YOU THINK THE CENTRAL VIRGINIA GOLD PROSPECTORS' CLUB SHOULD RE-JOIN THE GPAA. I must have your vote by September 20 to be able to include it in the count. Otherwise, you will need to be present to vote on re-joining the GPAA. The meeting with Perry will be fully discussed on the 21st and the vote will be held then on whether to once again become affiliated with GPAA. SUMMARY OF SEPTEMBER 6 & 7 OUTING AT GOLDVEIN and MEETING WITH PERRY MASSIE Some of our members went to the Goldvein property on September 5 and helped to get things ready for the arrival of teveryone. We had a great turnout--somewhere between 50 and 60 people. The weather was fantastic and there had been a little rain so there was even some water in the river. There was some gold found, although it wasn't enough to quit one's regular job. On Friday, Perry with his lovely wife Sandra and their cameraman Joey Wilson arrived and did quite a bit of filming. They started with a little background at the Miner's Museum about the history of gold in the area. Then they worked their way along the river talking with our various members as they prospected. Saturday we had approximately 45 people present to ask questions of Perry and discuss why we should rejoin the GPAA. The first question was "How did the 'Buzzard' get his name". This got things started and then the questions turned to more serious matters. The whole session was recorded, with everyone's permission, because our Secretary can't write that fast. A brief synopsis of the discussion follows and is not verbatim in the interest of brevity. . What will the GPAA do for us if we are affiliated with them. They possibly would help us in any legal problems that might arise regarding State Regulations affecting prospecting, but this would be based on and analyzed with each separate problem. GPAA does not automatically have a right for ALL their members to use any property CVGP may acquire rights to. A percentage of GPAA membership fees are returned to the individual clubs--usually in the form of fund raising merchandise. The whole issue will be FULLY discussed at the meeting on the 21st and everyone is urged to come and participate. A vote will be taken to decide on whether to rejoin GPAA. Please try and be there. Regardless of what happens, our Vice President Ned Skinner did a fantastic job on arranging all of the events, including the appearance of Perry Massie, for which we thank him. Hopefully the Club will be having more outings and that the participation will only grow. We really had a great time! One thing that will be of interest to many of you is that the Outdoor Channel as of October 1 will be associated ONLY with Direct TV. Those of us still using the big satellite dishes will not be able to get the Outdoor Channel anymore. The program featuring the group at Goldvein will probably be shown sometime beginning in December. Also at the meeting on the 21st dredging permit applications will be available to complete by individual members and they will then be sent to the proper authorities for approval. Next, about the Mining Safety Class: This would be held in Fredericksburg on a Saturday from 9AM until 2PM. If there are 15 or more participants, the class is free--fewer than 15 requires a $10 fee per person. Please let us know if you have interested in participating. Look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
