Hello Fellow Prospectors: The monthly meeting was held on Saturday, August 17, 2002 and was attended by approximately 25 members and several prospective new members. A moment of silence was observed and then a few announcements were made. The first topic for discussion was the visit by Perry Massie on September 6 and 7: The filming on the 6th will be done at a spot on Deep Run River in Goldvein, Virginia. The starting point will be at the Goldvein Miner's Museum parking lot on Route 17, Goldvein. At 8AM, 9AM and 10AM, a "pilot car" will leave the Museum and guide you to the exact spot. Some members will be going on Thursday to get set-up and there is space for camping. A club member has also volunteered his 10' x 10' tent for people to sleep in (on a first come basis). We will also have drinks and snacks for sale as a small way to make money for the club. On Saturday the 7th we will meet at the Small Country Campground in Louisa at 10AM SHARP to talk with Perry Massie and he will answer any questions you may want to ask. Please remember we are temporarily being allowed to use this property--do not litter. The owner says he would prefer that we don't do any high banking. If we treat this property with respect it might result in the club being allowed to use this property when they want. On September 21st, we will have our regular meeting and will make a decision then on whether to rejoin the GPAA or not. Earlier this year a decision was made that only those present at a meeting were eligible to vote on any proposal before the Club so please be there. Next on the agenda was the proposed Miner's Safety Program. A minimum of 15 people are needed for them to hold a course specifically for our group. Please let us know if you would like to participate. The class would be on a Saturday. As you know, the subject of Government regulations regarding gold prospecting has been under discussion. We now have a supply of forms for completion for dredging and sluicing permits. It was decided that the individual completed forms would be submitted all together to make more of an impression. Maybe we will be stronger in numbers. The Treasurer's Report was then given. And last but not least the raffle for two gold nuggets was held. Once again, the lucky winners were very pleased. GOLDVEIN IS ON ROUTE 17 EAST OF WARRENTON approximately 15 miles (take Route 17 South) OR WEST OF FREDERICKSBURG approximately 12 miles (take Route 17 north). For those who receive this by email, there is a great map at www.mapquest.com --just search Goldvein, VA. For those who receive this by regular mail, see attached copy of map. There will be some people there with metal detectors and we have been told there is exposed bedrock. It should be a great outing!! September is going to be a busy month for CVGP and we hope to see a great turnout for every event. We are very pleased to announce that Ben Warner, one of our new members, has agreed to be Chairman of the Claims Committee. He is very knowledgeable. There will be a picnic at our last meeting for this year (October 26) with BBQ, burgers, cole slaw, baked beans and all the other stuff to go along with it. This will be free to our card holding members but everyone is welcome and a donation would be appreciated. Also, a covered dish would help--you will need to bring your own drink. If you have questions contact: Sandy or Bob Stowe-(540) 948-6689 - Email Bob&Sandy@crosslink.net Ned Skinner's Cell Phone No. is (703) 966-3817. If he is at the Goldvein site there is no cell phone service. Otherwise, you can reach him at this number. Spoke with Ned on the telephone and he said Perry Massie called him and confirmed that he would be arriving in Richmond on Thursday, together with his wife and photographer. He will join us in Goldvein at about 9AM on Friday. LOST and FOUND: One of our members left his folding chair at the last meeting. It is one of a set and if anyone knows where it is, please let us know. Look forward to seeing everyone at Goldvein.
