Also present were several prospective new members. The meeting was started by observing a moment of silence. The first thing discussed was dredging permits. Rod Ingalls will be contacting Palmer Sweet of VA Mines & Minerals to get more specific information about this matter. We will keep you posted. The possibility of a blanket Club permit to include all our members was mentioned. This is a "HOT" issue. If we don't pay attention, we could lose our right to prospect in Virginia!! You are needed at the meetings to help us come with ideas on how to protect our interests. Bob Stowe gave the Treasurer's report--the bank balance is $2,102.58. Rod Ingalls provided us with a group of VCR tapes of Gold Prospecting which can be checked out for a nominal charge. The subject of prospecting using metal detectors was brought up. The pros and cons were discussed by several knowledgeable members. One of the big factors affecting metal detecting for gold in Virginia is the quality of your detector since there are so many minerals in the soil. Mrs. Small, co-owner of the Small Country Campground, informed us that the Fair they were going to have in August had been cancelled. You can disregard the email sent out asking for volunteers to help. REGARDING THE GPAA COMING TO VIRGINIA: On September 6th, Perry Massie and his crew will be doing some filming of the Central Virginia Gold Prospectors Club doing some prospecting. The exact time and location of that will be announced soon. On September 7th, we will have a meeting beginning at 10AM to discuss whether we might re-join the GPAA. Individuals will be able to ask Perry any questions they may have. WE WILL HAVE OUR REGULAR SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21st MEETING TO DISCUSS AND MAKE A FINAL DECISION AS TO WHETHER WE WILL RE-JOIN THE GPAA. Dave Saum's great work on our website was acknowledged. He told us if there is anything you would like to see on the site, to let him know. A mining safety class has been under consideration and the details for this are being finalized. We will let you know when and where this will be. Herb Nunley, one of our members who is a leather crafter, donated a beautiful belt for us to raffle. We certainly appreciated that. Two gold nuggets, one from Alaska and one from Australia were also raffled off and the lucky winners were very pleased. The meeting was then adjourned. -------------------------------------------------- We now have our printed membership cards and they are being distributed at the meetings. If you do not pick up your card at a meeting, it will be mailed to you. Hope to see all of you at our next meeting. Have a great day Sandy Stowe, Secretary of Central Virginia Gold Prospectors
