USER INSTRUCTIONS FOR INFILTEC BLOWER DOOR PROGRAM BD-DEMO.EXE is a self extracting file that contains the DOS blower door program BD.COM with sample data files. Save the extracted files to a new folder such as c:\bd-demo on your hard drive, or onto a floppy disk folder. After saving the program files, you can run the program by going to START then RUN then C:\bd-demo\BD.COM. Note that BD.COM is the program file. The BD.COM program prints to DOS LPT1 printer, but this may not work under Windows. To get around this, you can select the printout option "Print to File" and the report will be saved in a text file so that you can use a word processing program like MS Word to print your report. You will want to select a mono-spaced font like courier for these reports, and not a proportional spaced font, to keep the formatting of the data columns straight. The sample test files for each gas are adapted from the NFPA 12A-1989 Standard Appendix B on Integrity Testing for Halon 1301 Total Flooding Fire Suppression Systems NOTE: To use this software with E3-DM4 you MUST: 1. Set Orifice Plate Ratio=1.0 in this program because the DM4 computes the ratio from the Low Flow settings. 2. For depressurization (fan blowing away from you) leave both DM4 reference ports open. Connect the signal ports to the fan and the door panel. For pressurization (fan blowing way from you) leave the pressure reference port open, but connect the flow reference port to outside/door pressure tap on the door with T fitting. Contect the signal ports to the fan and the door panel. If you have any questions about these two instructions, contact the Infiltec factory at 540-943-2776. Directions for running Infiltec DOS PC Program BD * Make a copy of the program disk and store it in a safe place as a backup (e.g. XCOPY A:*.* B:). * You can copy the program disk onto your hard disk and run it from there (e.g. XCOPY A:*.* C:) * You must have file the BD.COM to run, plus HERC.COM if you have a mono graphics monitor. * Put the disk in a drive and log onto drive (i.e. put it in drive A and get A> prompt). * Type the program name, BD, and press the ENTER key to start program. * The first screen will ask you whether you want an old or new data file. * If you can not read the first screen, press F1 to quit and type BD S to start. * Type O (for Old) to select an old file, so you can see some sample data. * The next screen shows a directory of test files that are saved on the disk. * Type N or NF to select the file named BD-DEMO1 and then press ENTER. * Type Y (for Yes) when you are asked if BD-DEMO1 is the file that you wanted. * File BD-DEMO1 contains sample test data, and README has comments on running the program. * You can look through the this data file by just pressing ENTER. * Or you can use the arrow, page, insert and delete keys to edit lines. * Or you can use the function keys to jump around or change calculations. * ESC jumps you back to the previous screen or screen section * F1 stops the program, and you will be asked if you want to save your work. * F2 is not used. * F3 Jumps you ahead to the next screen or screen section. * F4 = Changes the units to " WC and cfm, to Pa and cfm, or to Pa and Lps. * F5 = Saves your work on a disk file that you can name and retrieve later. * F6 = is not used. * F7 = Prints all data up through the screen you are on. You can also save ASCII text in a file for your word processor. This makes it easy to make reports that have your blower door data analysis in them. Important Program features: * Data can be easily saved and retrieved from small disk files. They have the .BLD extension. * The program works with any video board: CGA, Hercules, EGA, VGA, etc. * Data editing uses all the standard keys: Insert, Delete, Page, Arrows, etc. * Function keys are used to jump around screens and to change modes. * Color is used but all displays work on monochrome or LCD monitors. * You can switch from units (and back) by pressing function key 4. Note that if you save a data file, the type of units will be saved, and the next time you display this data, the units will be the same as when you saved it. So if you always work in one set of units, you will not have to switch back and fourth if you do not want to. * When you exit the program, you are always asked to save your data so that valuable test results will not be lost. If you were editing a previous test file, you are given the option of overwriting the original file or creating a new file name. Improvements in 6/15/95 Version of Program BD 1. All known bugs have been fixed. 2. Units of Pa and cfm can be used together. That is now the default mode 3. Wind shielding and house height are used to modify the infiltration factor of 20. Houses higher than 1 story or unshielded have higher infiltration. 2. The ESC key now allows jumping back to the previous screen, from any screen. 3. Printer output has 1" margins at left and right if your printer is set to 10 cpi. 4. More comment lines are added to Test Identification Screen. 5. If screen entries are blank, then the lines are not printed out in report. 6. The program has been speeded up. 7. Barometric pressure is no longer needed in the calculations. 8. Optional surface area will compute the Leakage Ratio, if entered. 9. Any Low-Flow factors (orifice ratios) can be input now. The E3 blower door always uses 1.0 and there is a note on the screen about correct factors. 10. Fuel cost and payback estimates have been added. Please send us comments, suggestions, and bug reports.
